Welcome, Callie! Please share a
little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Thanks so much for having me here, Laura! Well, I’m Callie
Croix, the lesser-known, naughty persona of romantic suspense author Kaylea
Cross.
Ooh, delish! Okay, so, tell us a little about your latest or upcoming
release.
Let Me In comes out from Carina Press on May 21st,
and it’s on sale for $0.99 at all vendors throughout the month of May.
It’s not technically a sequel per se, but it features Liam
as the hero, whom you’ve met if you’ve read No Holds Barred.
What a deal! What are you waiting for, people? Go get it! LOL So, which
character is your favorite and why?
I always tend to identify more strongly with my heroes, so
in this case, it’s Liam. There’s just something about an alpha military or
ex-military hero who’s not afraid to show his softer side that curls my toes
every time.
I’m the same way, and he sounds swoonworthy from just this much
description! As the author, what surprised you about this story?
I’ve become addicted to the show Hoarders, because it both
horrifies and fascinates me. Sometimes it’s hard to watch, but I. Can’t. Stop. Watching.
I wanted to write about a hoarding character, and this story
gave me the chance to make it happen.
Oh, my God, I’m kinda the same way about that show! Will there be any
sequels or other books in the same series?
As I mentioned, Liam is first introduced in No Holds Barred.
I have no plans at the moment for another story in the series.
Okay, so, what was the hardest thing for you about writing this story?
I think for me, it’s a challenge to sometimes balance the
plot and story arc with the sex.
That can be a challenge in erotic romance… What are you working on
right now?
I’m expecting edits shortly on a book coming out next year
from Carina Press, tentatively titled Covert Seduction. It features a
deliciously badass Navy SEAL hero and a suspense plot, and it’s more my “true”
voice than anything else I’ve written as Callie. In future, blending sexy heat
with suspense will be how I roll.
Sounds awesome! What happened to the first book you ever wrote?
Um, it got published. But don’t hate me! It’s my weakest
book ever, and I still wish I could go back and rewrite parts of it. Maybe someday
my publisher will let me…
That’s a great accomplishment. And I think we often feel that way about
our earliest publications! What do you find easiest and hardest to write?
Easiest for me are the sex scenes and dialogue. Hardest
would be the action sequences, because of the choreography and detail. It’s
natural for me to go on and on with description and inner monologue, which
kills the pace of a story. I have to be careful to crack down on that as I’m
drafting.
Have you incorporated actual events or people from your own life into
your books?
Yes! All sorts of little details have crept into my stories,
including things like my career as a national level softball player, belly
dancing, and my love of Special Ops (it’s weird, I know). The occasional
relative or acquaintance have made guest appearances also, all without them
knowing, of course.
I think we need to know more about this softball playing! That’s cool! Is there a theme or message that runs through
your work?
I think the biggest things in any relationship are trust and
respect, and that goes double for any kind of romantic relationship where there’s
D/s play (even light) involved. I hope I demonstrate the growth of both those
things in my stories.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
That I started writing erotic romance on a dare from my
romantic suspense editor? Oh, it’s true. I totally balked at the idea when she
first approached me, but as she kept goading me, I thought, “What the hell. Why
not?”
I tell you what, it took me a long time to be able to type
those really graphic words for body parts into a manuscript and actually leave
them there. Now it’s a piece of cake.
LOL! That’s a great story! Which romance book or series do you wish you
had written?
Besides Hearts in
Darkness, you mean? (I am such a fan of that story!) Hmm, well it would
have to be the early Black Dagger Brotherhood books, and some of Linda Howard’s
early books, like All the Queen’s Men.
OMG, what a thing to say!!!! Completely agree on the BDB books, and,
yes, the earliest of them (first five?) Of all the characters you’ve ever written,
who is your favorite and why?
As Callie, that would be Deke, from Deacon’s Touch. He’s the first hero I ever wrote about, so he has a
special place in my heart. Plus he’s a hot, sexually dominant ex-military
cowboy, so how can I not love him?
As Kaylea, hands down it’s the eldest of my heroes, Luke
Hutchinson. He’s introduced in the first book of my suspense series (Out of Her
League) and continues through the others until he and Emily finally get their own
story in the final book, Absolution,
which just won the 2012 EPIC Award for best romantic suspense. He was my
favorite before the win, but having a trophy for him just makes him even more dear
to me.
Awesome! Okay, now, just for fun:
Milk chocolate or dark chocolate? Dark. The darkest I can get
my hands on. I’m a total chocolate snob and will only eat certain brands that
just *happen* to be on the pricey side.
Salty or sweet? Sweet.
Bed or kitchen table? Bed! All that soft warmth to curl up in,
stretch out on while you’re uh…enjoying yourself. (That’s still a PG answer,
right?)
Beach or mountains? Beach. Preferably in Kauai or along the Gulf Coast.
Give or receive? Oooh, tough one. Give, if I have or can do
something to make someone’s day better. Receive if it’s a hug or a Starbucks
hot chocolate.
On leave for Thanksgiving, the last thing Marine lieutenant Talia Barnett expects to find is Liam Brodie waiting for her at the airport. He’s had a starring role in her fantasies for the past two years, and although she’d love to make them a reality, she has a dark secret that prevents her from taking things further.A former Marine, Liam’s specialty is planning tactical operations, and that’s just what he plans to do to win Talia. The woman has kept him at arm’s length for too long, and this time he’s finally going to claim her—body and heart. What begins as comfort quickly turns hot. When Liam shows Talia a hint of the dominant nature inside him, the submissive part of her flares to life. Though she desires him, she’s going back on deployment and doesn’t want to dump all her drama on him. Will he find a way to break through the protective walls around her heart and convince her they have a future that goes far beyond the bedroom?
Where can we find you on the web?

Hi, Linda! I agree, fluff is awesome :) Hope you have a great weekend.
Karly!!!! You sweetie pie, how are you? I love seeing how well you're doing with your books. Those new covers are just gorgeous.
Laura, Hearts In Darkness was one of my fave reads of last year. I'm now reading Her Forbidden Hero and am half in love with Marco already. You're a talented lady.
Love! I just got the first one on B&N and I know what I'm doing this weekend ;)

Congrats on your new release, Callie! Even the commercials for Hoarders repulse me. I'll be curious to see how you make any of that insanity sexy.
Great interview.
I have never read any of Callie's books, but Let Me In sounds really good.
I'll definitely be checking out her books.

You had me at Marine, lol. This past week, every blog I follow has reviewed this book and had only great things to say about it, so I've been itching to read it as well. I'm dying to know what dark secret has kept her from her hunky hero for two years! The girl has some will power. Not sure I'd have lasted 5 minutes :)
Thanks for the giveaway!

Michelle, yay! Hope you enjoy it. It's short and sweet and hot, lol.
Gail, it is repulsive. I don't know why I can't stop watching! And it's used as a subplot, cuz even I can't make that sexy ;)
Thanks, LWolf! Have a great weekend.
MWilson, thanks! I should point out here to clarify, but this book is not a BDSM title. I'm not even sure how that classification came about, because it's straight contemporary erotic romance.
Bas1chs, that Liam is quite something :)
Divavixenqueen, thanks for coming by!
Thanks, Yvette. I love alpha heroes with a tender side.
Fun interview! Callie is a new to me author.
I like the sound of the Let Me In story

Great interview and congratulations on the new release.
All of reviewer buddies have read Let Me In and rave, just rave about it. I admit, I'm slow on my new releases. Would love to win it.

Thanks, Pam! I'm so glad you liked them. They were my first foray into erotic romance waters.
CR, yay! Thanks for coming by :) And um, you're just as much to blame for my turning to the dark side. I seem to recall you dragging me there kicking and screaming too!
Marika, hi! I'm glad most reviewers have liked it. There has been some disappointment because somewhere Let Me In has been labeled as BDSM, which it definitely is not.
Callie Croix is a new author for me but not for long. I'm going to check out her works and add them to my wish list.
I enjoyed botht he interview and the excerpts.
Thanks,
